Thank you to all who voted for Jacob. Technically he didn’t win the scholarship, but because he was a finalist he was offered 1/2 off tuition, which is still a tremendous savings. So in some ways he still won! Thanks again for helping us!

Jacob win free college tuition!
I am asking for your help. My brother-in-law, Jacob, entered a radio contest to win free college tuition. WCQR Christian Radio, in East Tennessee, is searching for a “College Hero”. It is a contest specifically for men and women of our Armed Forces, Police, Fire, EMS, and service organizations to have the opportunity for free college tuition from King College. As a former National Guard soldier and a current police officer, Jacob is the perfect candidate and among the top five finalists! Last week all finalists participated in an on-air interview…this week, the winner is chosen through online voting. The amazing thing is that YOU CAN HELP!!! It is simple…please go to this link and vote for Jacob Sprouls to win the College Hero contest. As you know, this is an amazing opportunity for him and would greatly help them financially. Jacob has always desired to complete his degree, but it is very challenging given his changing shifts. This degree completion program would allow him to complete a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2 years. So, again, I ask you to help.
Feel free to pass this along to people you know, so here is a copy of the link

Voting will be open until Friday (May 30) so, please vote soon!
Tell everyone you know…SPREAD THE WORD!! Thanks!
So a friend of mine was getting married, and the wedding was on a tight budget. Knowing that in order for weddings to be pulled off on a tight budget, it requires help from friends and family. I told her if there was anything I could do, just let me know. Not much longer after that, her mom called one day and asked if I would help with the food. I agreed, thinking I’m sure it will be pretty simple. The bride didn’t have much of an opinion about the food, however, she did suggest a dessert bar. If the timing of the wedding were different, then I’m sure a dessert bar would be ok. Considering the wedding was at 6:30, most people probably haven’t eaten dinner and would appreciate something substantial to eat. So we compromised with a little of both. By default, my mom shared the responsibility of the food with me. Unfortunately and fortunately, neither of us like to do things half way, so we both agreed to make it as best as possible.
Our menu:
Vegetable crudite with a vegetable ranch dip
Fresh Strawberries and Grapes
Stuffed Mushrooms
Bruschetta
Spinach Artichoke dip served hot with whole grain crackers
An assortment of cheeses with an assortment of crackers
Lemon Bars
Brownie Bites
Creme Puffs
Key Lime Bites
A chocolate fountain served with pound cake, bananas, strawberries, pretzels, and marshmallows for dipping
Fruit tea and coffee
Unfortunately, Savannah woke up the day of the wedding with a fever and rash. After a quick trip to the doctor, it was back to the kitchen for the food prep.
What I learned:
People prefer heavy appetizers (the hot apps were gone, and we were left with tons of sweets)!
It’s better to designate someone to cut the cake. As the couple was cutting the cake, I was informed that we the “caterers” were to cut and serve it. Given the amount of food prep still to be done and the mountain of cleaning, it was the last thing I wanted to do. Especially because it was a fondant cake, which are especially difficult to cut. Thankfully about 1/2 way through, someone volunteered to help, so I was able to go back to the kitchen and get more stuff done.
Caterers earn every penny they get-it was a lot of work! The multiple trips to Costco, the grocery store, and the party store, then the food preparation, and don’t forget set-up and clean-up. All in all, I realized that the job would have probably been easier for a caterer. A caterer would know how much food to prepare for 75, and would have the tools/serving pieces needed to do so.
My family is AMAZING! I am so thankful for my entire family, everyone pitched in and helped. We joked that if we started a catering business, we should call it “A Family Affair”. At the reception, my entire family was working. Dad manned the drinks, Jacob and Tara manned the chocolate fountain, mom manned the main food table, and I was in the kitchen preparing whatever foods were needed. Kyle was at home with Savannah, which was a huge relief to know she was well taken care of.
I had a couple of comments “Oh, you’ll have to do my wedding”. I’m glad that we were able to bless the new couple, however, I don’t foresee “A Family Affair” as a business anytime soon. As always though, it was a learning experience that has made me more appreciative of caterers, but it has also made me more appreciative of my family, because what started out as me volunteering to take care of the food, truly did become a family affair.
Good news, Charysse is out of surgery and doing well. Check out her blog for more details.
Please continue to pray for:
a speedy recovery
unchanged pathology results
peace and comfort for Charysse and the whole family
My sister-in-law had her pre-op tests today, in preparation for surgery on Thursday. We are believing that when the doctor calls tomorrow, the tumor will have vanished. The family says they will go to Disneyland on Thursday instead
Please believe with us for a miracle! Even if the tumor is still there, and she has to go through surgery to have it removed-we are still believing in a miracle! If you would like more of her story and updates, check out her new blog, Charysse.
my wonderful sister, Tara, to the blog world. Check it out Tara
p.s. Sis, I hope you don’t mind that I’m sharing you with the rest of the world, but you are just too good to keep to myself.

Labor Day weekend, Savannah went to church for the first time. I struggled knowing if it was the right time to take her or not. One of the doctors in the hospital said it was the worst place for her, since people would be familiar enough with her to want to touch her and get close. Kyle and I talked about it though and felt it was time, little did I know how timely it was.
A year ago during worship one Sunday, my dad felt the Lord lead him to make a bold statement of faith. 30 years ago he dedicated his daughter (me) to the Lord, and one day during worship he felt he needed to do it again as he had so many times previously. Then the Lord asked him to dedicate his grandchild in faith. He went to our pastor and asked to do it in front of the church. On labor day, my dad got up in front of the church and shared our story of infertility, and then he then prayed a prayer of dedication for his grandchild believing that he/she would be coming. It was a beautiful prayer, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place. Our pastor then used it as an opportunity to pray over anybody who was going through infertility.
One year later, labor day weekend, Savannah’s first visit to church, we went as a family. My dad shared with the church that his granddaughter was here and he wanted to give God the glory.
Throughout this journey of infertility, there were many times of doubt and even confusion, but my dad’s faith was unwavering. He always had such a strong peace and confidence that not only would I be a mom, but that I would get pregnant and bring a child into this world. Daddy, thank you for being a rock of faith in my life.
A year ago he stood up as a papa of faith, and this year he stood up as papa of Savannah Grace.
Well I just got back from the airport and picked up my parents and sister! Yeah!!!
It is going to be a fun and memorable weekend.
Unfortunately, the surprise party I planned for my husband is no longer a surprise, but at least it’s still a party with a “few” of our closest friends.
As far as Day 4 goes, I’m taking Clomid 100mg-not feeling any effects yet and of course my prenatal vitamins. I am figuring out that I can somewhat gauge my hope for pregnancy factor by the consistency of my taking prenatal vitamins. If I think I may get pregnant-I am very deligent and conscientious about taking them, and then there are times that I don’t take any (subconsciously thinking what’s the point)? Hmmm…discovering strange behavior about yourself is always enlightening.
