I am healed, and oh, by the way…

We are pregnant!  Yep, that’s right!  We are pregnant.  If your recall, this past February, I felt the Lord prompt me to not just look at Savannah as a miracle, but to also believe for my own miracle of healing.  The next month we got pregnant, but  we lost the baby.  I took that as a sign of healing, just not the right timing.  I kept waiting for my body to get back into the swing of things hormonally, but found myself battling migraines one right after another.  I’ve always had migraines, but I tend to get them worse and more frequent when pregnant.  I decided to take a pregnancy test, and sure enough it was positive!  You would be proud though, because this time I only took one test (last time I took 5)! I had no idea how far along I was, so I called my doctor and we had an ultrasound.  We found out that we were 5 weeks  6 days pregnant, and we got to see the heartbeat.  It was still early, but I really had faith that this pregnancy would make it.  The past few weeks have been full of ups and downs.  There are moments that I’m planning on another baby and dreaming up names and nurseries, then there are other moments that I wonder if it will really happen.  Today, I’m dreaming of names though!

We went today and had our first official OB appointment!  The baby looks great, with a heartbeat of 170 bpm, and measuring 9 weeks. This puts us with a due date January 16th!  It was such a relief to see that little body–at only an inch long,  Peanut already has a head, a body, a heartbeat, and little arm and leg buds.  It was even moving around. It makes it so much more real to see it!

Please believe with us for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.  Given my last pregnancy’s complications of placenta previa, the chances of another previa are higher.  We would really like to avoid that if at all possible.  So be praying that the placenta is high in the uterus.  We won’t know for a couple more months though.

Well that’s what has been going on in the Chowning household!  Savannah isn’t real happy about the news right now, because it means that she has to start eating on her own.  She has become quite attached to mommy, but she is slowly learning to enjoy food.  My goal is to have her weaned completely by her first birthday (which is a little over a month away!)  My how time flies!

all I got to say is…strawberry lemonade!

It’s hot here!  I’m not sure what happened to Spring, but it left without telling me.  Savy and I were running errands and I was in need of something refreshing.  I remembered sitting in a Starbucks and someone ordering a strawberry lemonade.  I had never noticed strawberry lemonade on the menu, but I watched as they proceeded to make it and give it to the lady.  So in the midst of the heat today, I went to the closest Starbucks and asked for just that.  The cashier looked puzzled but asked somebody else, she asked if I wanted a “blended strawberry lemonade”, and I said sure.  Before I know it, I’m sipping on an icy strawberry lemonade that totally quenched my thirst.  So next time you are in need of a cool refreshing drink, I recommend Starbucks blended strawberry lemonade, it’s not on the menu, but they know how to make it!

Disturbed…

I was asked to join a cause on Facebook called “Hakani”. I read through the description, and was compelled to join. Lately I have felt the Lord continuing to prompt me to ‘contend for life’. If you choose to click on the link to watch the trailer, I warn you it is incredibly disturbing. (The following is copied from the cause description in Facebook).

In the month of June 2008, the Brazilian government will vote on MUWAJI’S LAW, which will RECOGNIZE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AS CITIZENS deserving basic human rights, in order to OUTLAW INFANTICIDE in Brazil.

EACH YEAR, DOZENS OF BRAZILIAN CHILDREN ARE BURIED ALIVE, suffocated with leaves, poisoned, or abandoned to die in the forest because of their gender, physical or mental disability, or other circumstance beyond their control. This systematic infanticide is carried out by indigenous tribes who believe it is necessary in order to rid their community of evil spirits.

The ritual killing of helpless children is currently allowed by the Brazilian government out of concern for the traditional customs of the tribes. However, a dedicated community of survivors and activists in Brazil and around the world are committed to changing the law and stopping the senseless killing.

A DOCUMENTARY FILM, CALLED HAKANI: BURIED ALIVE – A SURVIVORS STORY, will soon be released Online!!! It uncovers the shocking truth behind child killings in Brazil and tells the touching story of one survivor, a young girl named Hakani. Watch the trailer of the film to hear some of her story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbjRU6_Zj0U

Legislation is now pending before the National Congress of Brazil that would officially outlaw this practice and allow law enforcement officials to save countless lives.

Thank you to all who voted for Jacob.  Technically he didn’t win the scholarship, but because he was a finalist he was offered 1/2 off tuition, which is still a tremendous savings.  So in some ways he still won! Thanks again for helping us!
