Save time!

Before clicking “ORDER”

A new habit that I have gotten into is saving me a lot of money.  When I’m doing on-line shopping, before I ever click “order”, I open a new browser and search for “_______coupon” (the  blank being the company’s name).  You would be surprised just how many on-line coupons are out there.  Now I’ve found plenty of coupons that don’t work, but when you find one, it’s like someone giving you your money back!

cry it out update…

So after doing a lot of reading, I came to a conclusion.  There really is no way to avoid crying when it comes to getting your baby to sleep through the night.  Granted, some parents are blessed with the baby that just started sleeping through the night on their own, but not all parents have that experience.  I wasn’t comfortable to just let her cry without any consolation, but I knew it was time for a change.  Knowing that she takes solid foods during the day, I knew she didn’t need to eat at night.  So last week, while Kyle was out of town, I made a decision.  No more eating at night.  I consoled her, but I didn’t feed her.  The first night was a little tough, but then the second night was a vast improvement.  Night 3 we were in new surroundings, so it was another rough night.  Since being home though, she has done great!  She sleeps 12 hours, and wakes up just a couple of times for a few minutes then falls back asleep.  Kyle took monitor duty last night, and I slept for a solid 9 hours! Talk about feeling like a new woman—WOW!  Instead of looking for a formula or program that would work, I just realized that I needed to approach it as if I were weaning her, and we were dropping a feeding.  And it worked!

Need a good cry?

My friend, Laura, posted about this video. I encourage everyone to watch it. I’m not much of a country music fan, but this video is a reminder to us all, we are at war. Typically, when a country is at war, the people have daily reminders because of its affects. Most of us, do not have these daily reminders, so it is easy to forget about what our country is going through. Regardless of your opinion on whether or not we should be at war, the truth is we are. We must not forget about those who have given their lives for our freedom, but also those they have left behind, who will have daily reminders of this war for the rest of their lives.

MommyNurse Tip: Infant Vaccinations

Most mom’s probably know this, but just in case….

BEFORE taking your child to the doctor for vaccinations (about 30 minutes before), go ahead and give your child a dose of tylenol. This will not only help with the discomfort, but it will also get ahead of those pesky post-vaccine fevers. Then continue with tylenol as directed for the rest of the day. One mom was complaining about how fussy her baby was after he received vaccines, I encouraged her to follow this advice, and the next time I saw her, she gave me a huge thank you because her once fussy/feverish baby, was his pleasant self post vaccines!

Disclaimer: This is not medical advice, as always, I recommend asking your provider for specific questions.

Why didn’t I think of that?

So I was going through my rss feed today (that I’ve been somewhat neglecting lately), and found 2 great ideas. You know those ideas that you say….why didn’t I think of that?

I have always been more of a shower person rather than a long bath person. Somehow since becoming a mom, I have had an appetite for long, hot baths. One of the challenges I have is maneuvering my reading treat-whether it’s a book or magazine. It’s difficult to relax without getting accidentally dipping the edge into the water. Then I found this….a bamboo bathtub caddy. Isn’t that great? I only wish it wasn’t so expensive, but it is a nice luxury. So if you are looking for a gift for that hard to buy for gal, consider this.

My other great find is a little more practical in nature. The moment I read about this one, I immediately clicked onto the website and purchased it. So what is it? Strapsecret Now most of you may not have this problem, but because of my very narrow shoulders, I am constantly pulling my straps up. Unless I find a racerback or sportsbra, then the problem is inevitable. Once I get them, and try them out, I will give an update as to how well they work.

Prayer needed

My sister-in-law had her pre-op tests today, in preparation for surgery on Thursday. We are believing that when the doctor calls tomorrow, the tumor will have vanished. The family says they will go to Disneyland on Thursday instead :) Please believe with us for a miracle! Even if the tumor is still there, and she has to go through surgery to have it removed-we are still believing in a miracle! If you would like more of her story and updates, check out her new blog, Charysse.

Need a new vacuum?

So 5 minutes for mom is offering a giveaway for an Oreck XL light vacuum cleaner. I don’t have one of these, but many fellow bloggers rave about it. Even if I don’t win, next time I’m looking to buy another vacuum, I’ll definitely consider this one.

Friends

I love having friends that will stay up until almost 2 in the morning to talk about God, life, and anything else that comes to mind–reminds me of college days! Thanks friends for a good hang-you know who you are!
