It’s that time of the year!

So a good friend of mine, Mommyzabs, started a company called CardmyChristmas Check it out, because she has some great options and it’s pretty affordable too. This one is my favorite-but I think it will be cuter with a picture of Savannah. She is having a $25 giveaway towards a purchase, check out her other endeavor Notchinamade for the details.

So you may be wondering what Savannah has been up to? She loves to sleep, but not for very long. She is still on a 3 hour flexible routine. Somehow at night she isn’t so flexible. It’s amazing how her tummy knows it’s been 3 hours. Although last night, she slept for 4 1/2 hours! YAY! I think I actually slept long enough to have a dream. She is starting to have a lot more awake time now. Her favorite activity when awake is definitely her baby Einstein playmat. She has been nursing 100% now for a few weeks, and I’m done with pumping, (which is an even bigger YAY!) So now our feeding routine is short and sweet-and no longer lasts an hour. For a while there, I was waking up every 3 hours-nursing, then pumping, and then bottle feeding, and don’t forget change her diaper, and wash the bottles etc. to be ready for the next round. By the time all that was done, an hour had passed easily, which basically gave me 2 hours to sleep before we did it again. I was really thankful for Nick-at-night’s Cosby show marathon. I love the show, and it was a way to keep me a little more alert. She and I are definitely enjoying running errands and just getting out. Today she got to hang out with her daddy at work, while I got to get a much needed haircut and color. Then we went to Target, Costco, and Joann’s-some of my favorite stores! I think I’m figuring out this whole posting picture thing, so I’ll try to post more in the future.

Menu plan Monday Oct. 8

Monday-Taco ring (we ended up not having this last week)

Tuesday-Birthday dinner for my dad at Bricktops–best burger in town

Wednesday-Chicken on the barbie–lifegroup is meeting at our house and they are bringing all the sides

Thursday–whatever–this was inspired by a friend of mine. This will probably mean leftovers, sandwich, or a bowl of cereal. We are headed out of town the next day so it will help to clean out the fridge a bit before we leave.

Friday–dinner with Jacob and Tara

Ziggy asked what taco ring was, so I thought I would share. It’s super easy, super quick and it’s a family favorite.

Taco Ring

1 pound ground beef
1 package taco seasoning
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 can crescent rolls
sour cream
lettuce
salsa
Brown the beef, and then drain. Add taco seasoning and stir. Then add cheese to mixture. On a pizza stone, separate crescent roll triangles and arrange in the shape of a ring with the tips hanging off. Then spoon meat/cheese mixture onto the rolls (which also ends up in the shape of a ring). Turn tips of rolls back over mixture. Cook ring on pizza stone as directed by crescent roll directions. Serve with a dollop of sour cream and salsa with some lettuce on the side.

You can make it lower fat as well, by using reduced fat crescent rolls, reduced fat cheese, and lean beef.

accept or embrace?

Sometimes I’m given a gift, and  I receive the gift with gratitude.  When I accept the gift, I think of all the ways that I could use the gift, because I generally like it.  Then it has to find a place to live…usually a drawer or a closet.  I always have great intentions of using the gift, but somehow life tends to busy me, and I can tend to forget about it.  After a while, I start to feel a bit cluttered, and decide to clean house.  I become motivated to organize, throw away, and basically get a new grip on my stuff.  I then begin the process of acquiring more things, some of which are gifts, and some are things that I pick up myself.  I sometimes find that I spend more time keeping things organized and in their place rather than actually taking time to use/enjoy them.

I find this to be true about spiritual things as well.  I am finding myself in a season where the Lord is challenging me to clean out my closets and drawers.  I tend to spend more time looking at my well organized spiritual closet, rather than taking the truths out and enjoying them.  As a Christian, over the years God has given me many spiritual truths.  In the moment, I receive it with gratitude and eagerness to to accept it as truth.  I believe it, and even recognize that it’s true for me.  Then I tuck it away in a place that I’m sure to remember, and before I know it, I’ve forgotten it.  Now if reminded, I can say, “yeah that’s true, I have that somewhere”.

Why don’t I bring it out more? Why don’t I know exactly where it is? Why can’t I embrace the truth so that it stays with me and becomes a part of me, instead of just a part of my spiritual closet?

So this is what the Lord is challenging me with right now….learning to embrace the truth, instead of just accepting it.  I know I’m a child of God, but now He is asking me to embrace my inheritance as one.
