Her face is changing everyday. Savannah was 5 weeks old yesterday! We went to the doctor and she weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and was 20 5/8 inches. Today was her due date, so she is now officially considered a newborn. The doctor said that she is ‘perfect’, I of course said “I know, but I’m glad you agree.”
Living life in 3 hour increments is quite an adjustment! I find it difficult to get much done. There is such a big learning curve when it comes to taking care of a newborn. We are learning a lot though-both me and Savannah. She communicates through little noises and cues, and Kyle and I are learning this new language.
Last Thursday Kyle made an interesting observation-the car was in the same spot since Sunday. He asked me about it, and it was then that I realized I had not left the house in days. Trying to protect our little preemie from the outside world and then add the extreme summer heat have kept us somewhat housebound. But Friday we escaped! I loaded her up (after lots of planning and packing) and we headed to the mall. The mall closest to us is pretty deserted during the day, so I knew there wouldn’t be a lot of people. I took her to Panera to get a bite to eat, and then we perused the shops looking for that thing that we just couldn’t live without. Even the mall has a learning curve with an infant-where are the elevators? the bathrooms? the baby stores? We did pretty good, minus the need to nurse and blowout diaper while at Ann Taylor. We improvised though. I simply went to the dressing room to try on some clothes, and let’s say it just took us a little longer than it should have.
We have been out a few times since then, and people have been so intrigued. They are amazed at how little she is, so I have become a broken record with “Well she’s a month old, but she was born 5 weeks early”. We are trying to not take her out too much, but life has to go on to some degree, and her mommy has to get out of the house sometimes too.
We have had several friends and family members stop by to see our sweet girl. It’s been fun getting to share her with the people who have prayed and believed so long with us. She is our little miracle, and she will always be a living testimony of God’s faithfulness and grace.
